At the Digital Dental Day event of the 6th of April in Cagliari, our best trainer Ms.Lucia Pizzoli will hold a workshop to demonstrate how the choice of the 3D Scanner is a factor that will influence the every-day-life of Dental Labs and Dental Clinics.

Some say number 17 brings bad luck. For Open Technologies, 2017 has been a year full of events: important challenges, new projects, decisive change. The 17th is the day in which projects and ideas evolved into reality. 

There have been numerous successes but at the same time, our road was paved with as many challenges. 

So we shared a toast and a salmon canapè; we took this day as a chance to loosen the tie, put the phone in silent mode, let our hair down. We remembered our first days when we were few and everybody had to do what was needed.


Every single choice has brought us where we are now and we are ever so grateful towards all those that trusted us. So we want to thank all the people that chose us and that will choose us in the future.

We don’t mean to speak empty promises and words. What we can say for sure, is that we will keep growing because we believe our projects strive in continuous research and development…

…and because this is our way.

Oberon 3D CMMs Seminarium with Open Technologies

On 24th and 25th of January one of our Polish dealersOberon 3D organized an Open Days. The function took place in their headquarter in Tychy: they invited people from companies they already cooperate with and some potential clients from all over Poland.

WHY? The main goal was to represent portable CMMs they have in their offer and to make some new acquaintances on the industrial market which is really important especially now when using measuring machines became more common. We are all pretty sure that everyone who decided to join the event left Tychy with greater knowledge and familiarity about portable CMMs.

On the first day, Oberon’s team conducted seminars about each product they trade. During seminars, their staff members explained the principles of how measuring machines work and showed it in practice.

The second day was all about practicing and taking measurements from Oberon’s details and the ones that have been brought by the guests. Scanners have been used for the engine block and for some smaller things.

Microsoft and Open Technologies bring together an unprecedented 3D ecosystem at the Microsoft Innovation Center in Copenaghen.


Internet of things begins with things.

Add sensors to create smart devices, deploy solutions that control, monitor and manage your things; gather real-time data, apply advanced analytics, transform insights into actions. Revolutionize your products and the way they are produced to reduce downtime, save energy and increase revenue.


Microsoft has chosen to invest in and establish a Microsoft Technology Center as part of the Danish headquarter in Copenaghen. The main goal of the MTC is to inspire customers about how digital technologies can drive businesses through the IoT revolution.

But, how? Through a structured and guided experience focussed on the way, their processes and businesses might look like with the use of advanced, cutting-edge technologies.

Open Technologies, the leading manufacturer or professional 3D Scanners, installed its high-end device, CronosDual, at the MTC’s innovation alley at the beginning of August. The scenario foresees Open Technologies 3d sensor, Unity3D, a Surface Studio and Microsoft Holo Lens placed side by side; capture any physical object, manipulate it in Unity and export it to the Holo Lens for the most immersive 3d experience ever.


We asked Microsoft to talk about their experience:

Open Technologies – What is the main purpose/target of the MTC’s innovation alleys?

Microsoft – The intention with Innovation Alley is to allow Microsoft customers and partners to experience, as is feel, see, touch, hear and even taste what technology can do. We do this, typically together with our partners, through functional scenarios where the technologies have been installed and are fully functional, so customers can try them out for themselves, or view demonstrations. As customers walk through Innovation Alley, we tell stories about how the technologies are applied and what mechanisms unlock business value.

OT – What is the meaning of IOT for Microsoft?

M – Internet of Things is a term for connecting all things digitally. To Microsoft the concept represents an opportunity to collaborate with partners and customers to unlock business value by registering, collecting and processing data. For example, Microsoft and Rolls Royce are collaborating to collect and process data from jet engines in order to make the airlines more successful.

OT – Who’s the main target audience for the Innovation Alley?

M – The main audience is enterprise customers, that definition, however, is rapidly changing as the 4th industrial revolution advances. Enterprise seems to indicate large in terms of people, however, companies of all sizes now have the potential to create breakthrough solutions; so in reality, all customers that want to challenge the status quo and create innovative solutions are the target audience.

OT – Why Open Technologies? how did you meet?

M – Microsoft noticed Open technologies at the Hannover Messe. The industry is moving towards 3D and 3D is becoming more mainstream. Microsoft is working hard to democratize 3D, investing heavily with products like Windows 10 Creators Update, native support for 3D printing, 3D builder and Paint 3D, Hololens and partners like Dell, Acer and Lenovo that are putting out mixed reality Windows 10 device. We were looking for partners that could help enable our customer to experience that moving from a physical object to a virtual object as holograms, augmenting, building or changing those and finally 3D printing new objects. Open Technologies is an innovative company themselves, creating high quality ultraprecise 3D scanners, so they seemed to be a natural partner to collaborate with.

OT – Any on the spot comments following the installation.

M – As part of the collaboration, Open Technologies came on-site to install the 3D Scanner and train our technical staff. This was a wonderful experience and it became clear that the people of Open Technologies are extremely skilled and competent.

OT – How many people do you expect?

M – The MTC was opened to customers and partners mid-September and we have had more than 100 people come through the MTC and Innovation Alley. We expect somewhere between 3 and 4000 people to visit the MTC each year.

Open Technologies – What did this experience gave you? On-the-spot comments?

Paolo Zani – I am sincerely impressed, Microsoft is a company of people providing solutions for people. They are developing products, services, and solutions for companies embracing the so-called, fourth industrial revolution with constant attention to the user. I could not imagine that working in such a dynamic (and big) environment would remind me of the same philosophy we have back home, at Open Technologies.

OT – How’s Open Technologies helping customer adapting to this upcoming revolution?

P.Z. – Open Technologies has been manufacturing high end industrial 3d Scanners for almost 12 years now, before that we provided services to the same kind of customer that today buys our measuring devices. Thanks to numerous difficulties encountered by our guys while servicing, new products development has always been user-oriented. At the beginning of my career, some of the workflows with our technologies required an incredible amount of knowledge and, let’s say that it was not something that anyone could enjoy.

As a result of more than a decade of feedbacks, today everything is highly intuitive, from the set up of the machine itself to software settings. I’d say that Open Technologies’ contribution to this new industrial trend comes from its priceless experience.

OT – How do you think your Cronos will help Microsoft project?

P.Z. – I believe Cronos will be the right device for its unparalleled flexibility.The experience gained over the years allowed to design a device merging features that actually enhance user experience and improve usability by simplifying any digitizing phase. The experience of the innovation alley may vary in the following months as well as products to be digitized, Cronos adapts quite well to any situation. Complex Geometries, as well as rich textures, does not represent a burden and virtually anything can be scanned in photo-realistic colors.
