Frequently asked questions about 3d scanner
What is a 3D scanner?
The 3D scanner is a tool which enables the acquisition of tridimensional digital version of the scanned object; both the accuracy of the scan and the reliability of the deriving object depend on the technology used.
What does "white light" technology mean?
The white light technology is the technique used by our scanning products. It consists in projecting on the bject some predefined and recognizable light shapes so that their distortion on the shapes to be scanned can show their contours. This solution enables to define shapes very accurately without coming in contact with the object itself.
What is the difference between a laser scanner and a white light scanner ?
The acquisition technology based on laser light projects a line on the object: the distortion of this line, enables then to recompose the object contours. In order to obtain the whole framed area other lines will have to be projected and acquired; on the other hand, with the white light the whole object is illuminated and quickly restored, considerably decreasing the time for the making of the digital model. Moreover, accuracy based on laser depends on both the quality of the projected light beam and the number of lines acquired: to increase accuracy means longer time. The structured light technology allows better quality taking advantage of the possibility of using different forms of llighting of the object keeping stable the acquisition time.
What are the fields this technology can be applied to?
Our products have been successful in different fields. Great confirmation was found in industrial applications such as the design and codesign, automotive, moulding and in the aerospace sector. Interesting and rewarding resuts have been achieved in sectors such as orthopaedics and cultural heritage for the reproduction and conservation of historical works of art.
