3D digitalization applied to the art and cultural heritage
The issue of heritage conservation is of great interest: unfortunatelly we very often see the total disappearance of highly artistic objects, due to calamities or serious degradation, negating future generation the enjoyment of these works.
The technology offered by Open technologies s.r.l. can be applied for the 3D scanning of any tridimentional work of art generating a prototype and an STL format model; the data can then be used for the true filing of the original one or for its reproduction.
Image acquisition through white light does not need any contact with the work of art nor the application of any special substances: this is fundamental in order to avoid degradation or mutation of the art object.
Filing of digital data from a work of art
With the 3D Optical RevEng scanner it is possible to carry out the survey of the art or archeologic objects for cataloging them and for monitoring the possible degradation in the years.
Positive experiences
In summer 2001 the Open Technologies scanner was used in the field of cultural heritage.
The staff at the optoelectronic lab
at the engineering division of Brescia university
carried out a whole 3d survey of the statue of vittoria alata
kept at the Santa Giulia Museum in the same city.
